Safe Environment Training and Livescan Fingerprinting Procedures

Please Read – New Diocesan Policy - In an effort to provide the safest environment for our children, the Diocese of Fresno is implementing a new Safe Environment Program. As parents you entrust your children to our care, and we take every effort to ensure their safety. As you probably know, every staff member, from the principal to the custodian, must be fingerprinted before they are hired. This provides not only a background check, but also future notification if any staff member commits a crime that makes their relationship with children questionable. Our new Safe Environment Program now includes training for all parents, after school volunteer coaches, parent volunteer drivers for any school activity (fieldtrips or after school sports) and classroom volunteers, in addition to all employees.

It is sad that we live in a society where children are vulnerable. The reality is that little abuse does occur, but a comprehensive approach to the problem and a rigorous program of education will reduce the level even more. A diocesan representative will provide training sessions on the Safe Environment protocol which will include training on how to report suspected child abuse. In order to document our compliance with Diocesan protocol, each parent will be asked to sign a form indicating their participation in the training.

I realize that this is a very busy time and it certainly adds one more event to our very busy schedules but we must follow diocesan policy. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of Safe Schools in our Diocese.

Mr. Neumeier, Principal

Upcoming Safe Environment Training Classes:

There are Save Environment Training classes going on at different locations in the valley. If you would like to attend a Safe Environment Training class please call Teresa at the Diocese of Fresno at 584-4349. You must register at least 48 hours in advance of the class. Each class lasts about 2 hours, there is no cost and all materials will be provided. You will be given a certificate of completion which you must return to the school office. In addition, volunteers are also required to be fingerprinted. Please see the procedures below for this process.

We want to thank all of our parent volunteers for completing the Safe Environment Program. In an effort to continue with this program, the Diocese of Fresno is offering the following schedule of live training session. Remember you may either attend a live training class or you can complete the on-line classes. Please check our website for further information.

Fingerprinting procedures:

Please pick up a form in the school office and then you may go to the Fresno County Jail to be fingerprinted, which is located at: 1225 M Street (at the NW corner of Fresno and M Streets).

There are two different fees for this process: a $32 Department of Justice fee and a $15 rolling fee ($47 total). If you go on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 7:00 am until 12:00 pm, the rolling fee of $15 will be waived. You must arrive no later than 11:30. Their telephone number is 488-3403 or 488-3724. Upon entering the jail, you do not need to take a number but go past the Officers Counter to the left and follow the signs for Livescan Fingerprinting.

Also, for your convenience we do contract with Central Valley Livescan to fingerprint parents on campus from time to time. Upcoming dates will be announced in the Tuesday letter and a sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in the school office. The fee is $47 and checks may be made payable to Central Valley Livescan.
