PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mr. Carey

1.                   The Blessing of the Pets was held on October 6th.  All the animals were very well behaved.

2.                   The annual Diocese of Fresno Catholic School Conference will be held on Friday, October 10.  Award winning teacher, author, and national presenter, Rick Morris will conduct the conference.  There will be no school on Friday.

3.                   Mr. Carey thanked everyone for the fantastic carnival.

4.                   The annual Golf Tournament for technology (for laptops this year) will be held on October 17 at Brighton Crest Golf Course.  Mr. Carey pointed out that St. Anthony’s has one of the best computer labs in Fresno.

5.                   The ITBS testing went very well this week.  This year SAT 9 has been replaced with the Iowa Test of Basic Skills or ITBS.  Results are due in about a month.  There were many questions and a discussion of the new standardized test.

6.                   Title II Part A provides funds to Federal and State programs and also a portion is given to private schools.  We will be benefiting this year by receiving funds to send a few teachers to a conference and the rate we pay for Internet access will be reduced by half with contributions from the State.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Rollie Cochran

The total available in the PTO account as of this date is $66,618.

The carnival made approximately $54,000 this year!

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Deb Martin

1.                   Deb is thrilled with the results of our carnival this year and is especially pleased with all of the help given by so many families.  Everyone had a great time.  This is a huge, time consuming effort by many, many people for the benefit of our children.

2.                   Italian Dinner:   Marina Whelan and LaVinda Garrett have volunteered to chair the Italian Dinner this year.

3.                   Golf Tournament:  Wendy Batti reported that the preparation for the golf tournament is going well.  Brighton Crest is always helpful in organizing the event and always treats us well.  The golf tournament is an easy event to put on, although it is difficult to get all the golfers and sponsors.

4.                   Halloween Party:  Out of 130 replies to the survey, only 35 families wished to attend the party.  Various reasons were given.  It was decided to cancel the party for this year.  There was a discussion regarding a suggestion for a Trunk-Or-Treat next year.  Children would go from car to car in the parking lot trick or treating for candy and families could buy pizzas to enjoy in the social hall before the event.

GUEST SPEAKER

Wendy Batti spoke to us as President of the Advisory School Board.

There are several on-campus committees.  The Education Committee, which reviews classroom policies and programs, is one.  The Uniform Committee, which reviews uniform requirements and policies as needed, but does not meet on a regular basis, is another.  There is also the Technology Committee, which coordinates needs for the computer lab and classrooms, also does not meet on a regular basis, but as needed.  Also, there is the Public Policy Committee, which reviews private school education issues.  All of these committees bring recommendations to the Advisory School Board, which then discusses the recommendations.  All decisions are ultimately made by the Church Advisory Council, which was formed by Monsignor two or three years ago and represents both the school and church communities.

NEW BUSINESS

A person is needed to prepare and distribute next year’s school directory.  Also a President Elect is still needed for this year.

Mr. Carey led us in closing prayer at 8:35 p.m.

Maryann Lewis, P.T.O. Secretary
