Advisory Board of Education
February 26, 2004


Members Present: Wendy Batti, Lisa Bonadelle, Shawn Carey, Lesa Dodd, Zetta Hadden, Kelly Lilles, Louis Linney, Debbie Martin, and Tom Neumeier Msgr. John Coelho-Harguindeguy.

Call to order- President Wendy called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm with an opening prayer offered by Shawn Carey.

Routine Business- The minutes were approved as presented.

March 18, 2004 is the next meeting date with a new meeting time of 5:30 for the remainder of the school year.

Representation Reports
Church- Msgr. reported on the findings of the Bishop’s task force on sexual abuse. He stated that over the last fifty years 110,000 priest have served in parishes across the country. Allegations of sexual abuse have involved 4,386 or 4% of the population. Of that number 2% have resulted in convictions. During that same time the Fresno Diocese has had 10 reported cases resulting in 8 credible accusations with $45,000 settlement payments paid by Bishop Madera to each complainant. Nationally, $500million has been paid in settlements thus far. In the Fresno Diocese two cases were filed on December 31st to comply with the final day of the reporting period as permitted by the Burton Law.
Under the provisions established by Bishop Stienbock no child under 18 can be alone in the company with any priest.
The RSI campaign is moving forward all of the committees are busy working to make the campaign successful. A major parish event on May 2nd will kick off the campaign.

PTO-Debbie Martin The Italian Dinner is on Feb. 28th and ticket pre-sales have been going well. On April 22nd it well be St Anthony’s night at the Grizzles. Mr. Carey will throw out the first pitch and the school choir will sing the National Anthem. PTO is still in need of a President elect for next school year. Committees are beginning to meet to prepare for the spring auction.

Financial- Mr. Neumeier presented the preliminary budget. There are increases in the following areas, workers comp-10%, liability insurance-15%, medical insurance-15% and lastly a 2% increase in salaries. A final working budget will be presented at the March meeting. To see the monthly Profit/Loss please see handouts.

Principal Report-Mr. Carey would like to begin brainstorming about the 3-5 year plan. He included the annual school report card for review at the March meeting. The salary schedule for lay elementary teachers was also reviewed. He recently hired a new director for after school care, Sarita DeSouza.
